Layla has been living in the shadow of her sister who mysteriously disappeared ten years ago. On the anniversary of her sister's disappearance, she experiences a nasty fall while ice skating and knocks her head on the ice.
When Layla wakes up, she finds that she has been magically transported to a kingdom made of ice and snow called Verglas. There, she is declared the warrior Verglas has been waiting for. She must choose between fighting against the Frosts - a long-time enemy - or going home without finding out more about her sister's disappearance.
Will she succeed as the warrior like her predecessors? Or will she crumble under all the pressure?
After her older sister Maya, who had never come home ten years ago, Layla's life came to an end. It was as if she lost her parents alongside her sister that night. No longer the cheerful and lively home, it was dull and cold. On the night of her sister's disappearance anniversary, Layla went out to skate at the lake behind her house. After a nasty fall, she woke up in an unfamiliar place and was chased by an iceman holding a hockey stick. Verglas. The magical ice kingdom that declared Layla as their long awaited warrior. The warrior who will help Queen Cayra, Bam and the people of Verglas to defeat the Frosts, the enemy of Verglas.
I was excited for this book because a) the cover is so gorgeous and b) it is a fantasy of a kingdom made from ice. It reminded me of Narnia and the White Witch. And so begins my misplaced skepticism towards Queen Cayra. I keep waiting for her to turn evil, but I figured out she's not evil.
The story is pretty much magical with different individuals having different abilities, strengths and powers. I was pretty much entranced from the moment Layla ran away from Bam. And speaking of Bam, he was so adorable!!! I love his goofiness and his whole character just screams happiness to me. As it is a novella, the story is short and paired with a super fast pace, I was able to finish it within a day. I had so much fun reading this novella and would definitely recommend to everyone who haven't read it.
