Love The Way You Are

August 28, 2020 6 Comments
Assalamualaikum, good day dearest. Okay, unlike the previous weeks, today I wrote a review on a Chinese drama. Okay, this is quite new to me as I usually enjoyed Chinese movie and rarely found a drama that match my taste. But this one is okay.

Title : Love The Way You Are
Episodes : 24 (45 minutes per episode)
Genre : Food, Romance, Comedy
Director : Xu Pei Shan
Writer : Xing Yi Ren
Cast : Judy Qi, Derek Chang, Ma Meng Wei, Qiu Bai Hao
Plot :

Zhen Yuan Yuan (Judy Qi) is a supermodel under the name Eva. Eva used to be a plump girl back in high school. Even when she had achieved the ideal body size, Eva suffered from a disease called 'Balloon Man' in which she had a certain amount of calories she can consumed. If she exceed the amount, she will be plump girl she used to be. The only person that knew her secret was her boss/manager/best friend, Xiao Nan (Qiu Bai Hao). Eva then met Ruan Dong Sheng (Derek Chang) a famous chef and also her crush back in high school. Ruan Dong Sheng is a chef but he had inability to taste.

This drama is based on a novel entitled, 'Just For Meeting You' by Haochen Zhang.

SPOILER ALERT

Okay, this is literally my second Chinese drama that I really enjoyed. Some others were just meh, and kind of had me pulled out from watching Chinese drama. The first one that I enjoyed was a crime, suspense drama called 'Love Me, If You Dare'. And this time I enjoyed a rom-com drama. Oh, what a change.

First off, Ruan Dong Sheng and Eva was so cute together !! They really suit each other with the visual (these two are gorgeous!), personality and even their standard of living. Ohemgii, I couldn't move on from these two. Helppp. They complete each other so well. I love that kind of things. It makes the character stronger when they had to depend on each other.

One of the funniest thing was how desperate Eva is trying to hide her identity as Yuanyuan from Dong Sheng. Even when he knew what had happened to her. Xiao Nan who initially told her to keep her secret was constantly changing side when Dong Sheng threaten to stop him from pursuing Lao Yiren (Ma Meng Wei), his PR manager.

This drama is light  so it is very easy to binge watch. Especially after having a hard day, this drama may will cheer you up with all the cuteness and humor.  I seriously couldn't stop smiling while watching this drama. Even with the secret the main lead hide from the public, it weren't such a big issues for them both. Their weakness was just used by the enemy to bring them down. Another thing that I like was how there was no potential rival to their love. Sure, there was Rebecca but she was just had an infatuation with Dong Sheng and eventually move on.

The ending was satisfying enough as both main character finally find their peace. Eva eventually realized that she didn't need to justify herself to anybody for her to be happy. Ruan Dong Sheng finally found his taste again after correcting his mistake and finally able to rebuild his father's taste. Oh, it was a very good happy ending.

Dia Tetap Sempurna by Anjell

August 25, 2020 8 Comments
Assalamualaikum, good day dearest ! How are you guys doing ? Well, I'm doing fine and hopefully it will be that way for a long period. Anyway, entry harini is another #bookreview, yehey ! Anak buah aku sorang tu terlebih baik sampai dekat sepuluh buah novel dia bagi aku pinjam. Hah, menghadaplah. Okay, this one is a new novel of Anjell.

Tajuk : Dia Tetap Sempurna
Penulis : Anjell
Mukasurat : 702 pages
Penerbit : Karyaseni
Cetakan : Mei 2020
ISBN : 9789674691608
Blurb :

Versi pertama pertemuan mereka. Ya. Dikejar kucing!

Versi kedua pertemuan mereka.

"After all, until the cruise ends, I'm all yours, sunshine." - ESKANDAR ARASYAH

Ya...

Hakikatnya, Eskandar memang punya segala-galanya. Wanita mahukannya. Lelaki cemburukannya. No access.

"Aku tak sempurna, Dara." - ESKANDAR ARASYAH

"Nobody is perfect," - DARA NAILUFAR

"Aku tahu. Tapi untuk satu ketidaksempurnaan, tak semua orang mampu terima." - ESKANDAR ARASYAH

"But you have everything." - DARA NAILUFAR

Okay, I think, this novel is one of the best that I have read (and that list is very long). Oh, terasa diawang-awangan aku baca novel ni. Haih, mana nak cari lelaki sesempurna Eskandar (pun intended) ? Eskandar are soooooo sweet, so nice omg mana nak cari husband macam diaaaa. Walaupun dia ada sakitkan hati Dara but he still care for her well-being. Hish, kalau nak aku cerita pasal Es aje memang tak sudah la review ni.

Plot novel ni simple and tak melalut apatah. Yang paling penting, there's no third person in their relationship. Yeahhh, ni penting sebab aku penat dah nak baca novel yang ada third person ni. The only coflict to their relationship was the secret of Es' imperfection. Itu pun no biggie sangat because it is in the past. Tapi serious shocking gila la ketidaksempurnaan Es. Jarang-jarang di-mention dalam media cetak Malaysia. Memang aku pun terberhenti baca jugaklah sekejap. Paling aku suka Dara punya reaction. It is not rushed sebab certain penulis suka nak exaggerate reaction watak. Watak Dara ni terima that news then took her time then face it. Aku suka dengan cara pemifikiran dia, matang. Walaupun naratif dia macam tak matang. Haha.

Just like many other novel, Anjell ambil pendekatan first pov (aku tak ingat novel lain Anjell) which is both fun and addicting sebab aku boleh berangan akulah Dara. Except I haven't take my master yet (insya-Allah in the future). Penceritaan sangat santai buatkan aku selesa gila nak baca. Tak dilupakan humor yang penulis selitkan disana-sini. Memang dok tersengih jela aku baca novel ni. Paling penting, novel ni tak cliche. Aku suka depa kahwin atas dasar percaya dan sayang satu sama lain. Alahai sweetnya. Lagi-lagi Es punya sifat protective tu. Alahaii cair makcik.

Ending dia memang happy ending lah kan, jarang nak jumpa love novel buat ending sedih (tak, aku tak pernah juma lagi, kalau ada recommend please). Pastuuuu, haih ni aku rasa nak berharap sequel ni. Kisah Haidar dengan Suria pulak sebab on the last scene tu rasa macam something je depa dua (walaupun scene Suria dengan Haidar jumpa mention sekali je). Halah.

Defendant

Assalamualaikum, good day dearest ! I am back with another k-drama review ! I have been enjoying this drama so much and it is one of my favorite.

not mine; credited to he rightful owner

Title : Defendant / Innocent Defendant
Episodes : 18
Genre : Thriller, Crime
Director : Jo Young Gwang
Writer : Choi Soo Jin
Network : SBS
Cast : Ji Sung, Uhm Ki Joon, Kwon Yuri, Oh Chang Seok, Uhm Hyun Kyung
Plot :

Prosecutor Park Jung Woo remember himself falling asleep in his home but found himself woke up in a prison as a murderer who kills his own wife and daughter. He lost his memory of four month due to temporary amnesia caused by traumatic experience. The last thing he remembered was celebrating his daughter birthday and fall asleep. While recovering his memory, he went on a second trial with the help of Public Defender Seo Eun Hye and was sentenced to death. Park Jung Woo had to retrieve the memory of that faithful night and prove his innocence.

SPOILER ALERT

Okay, I have watched this for countless time but still got the thrill. This drama is one of my favorite and every time I watched it, I still feels like the first time. The plot are pretty simple as a prosecutor, Park Jung Woo was accused to be a murderer of his own little family. And he tried to prove his innocence with the help of PD Seo Eun Hye. I personally could feel Jung Woo's frustration when he lost his memory. He had the answers all along but he can't get them.

This drama had a fast paced story line which means there is no time for me to get bored and relax. Something will happen every new episodes, let it be big or small matter. Even though with the thrill and suspense there are also humorous scenes to lighten up the mood back. It kinds of gave balance to the drama. I especially love the inmates that shared the same cell as Jung Woo. They are funny in their own way.

Another thing hat I love was how the scriptwriter made Jung Woo attempt to break prison couple of times before eventually success. It shows that it wasn't an easy thing to do. Every attempt made me stand on my toe especially the one where he successfully break out. That one was so crazy considering how meticulous he needed to be.

I love how every casts portraying their characters. They were all so good with their respective character. Especially the villain, Cha Min Ho. It was really annoying of him for bothering Jung Woo after every thing he had done. Damn you. I don't remember how much I had cursed him out in my mind. Ugh. Another character that I couldn't really decide whether to pity him or what was Jung Woo's best friend, Prosecutor Kang Jun Hyuk. He was momentarily blinded by success and position that he hide the truths from every one.

The ending was predictable even with a little mishap. Of course they had a happy ending and Cha Min Ho was caught but the sacrifice made by Lee Sung Gyu was so sad. He just meant to have his little sister back on the feet but then he was caught in a deep shit (excuse my language). It was sad to know that he died. Overall, I really enjoy this drama and would gladly re-watch it for a couple more times.

Maal Hijrah 1442H/2020M

August 19, 2020 2 Comments

 Assalamualaikum, good day dearest.

Here we are, starting another new year (Hijr). I'm starting this new year with a new hope, a new strength, a new passion and a new smile. This year had been really challenging for all of us and it was no exception for me. I'm hoping that we all could gain the strength to get through another challenge. It won't be flowery straight path, it could be muddy confusing path. Whichever path you're on, I'm hoping that you will get to the destination, stronger than ever.

Cried your eyes out, break down sometimes but always get up on your feet, again and again. Put your faith and trust on Allah. May He guide us the way.

Miss Baek

August 17, 2020 2 Comments
Assalamualaikum, good day dearest ! I'm being quite anxious because I have no idea when the result announce for UPU. Last time I check it will be announce tomorrow but then, there was no news (haven't check today) yet. Ugh, it kind of sucks. Well, let's get back to the topic. Today's review will be a South Korea movie from two years ago.

not mine; credited to the rightful owner

Title : Miss Baek
Runtime : 98 minutes
Genre : Drama, Suspense
Country / Language : South Korea / Korean
Released year : 2018
Director : Lee Ji Won
Writer : Lee Ji Won
Cast : Han Ji Min, Kim Shi Ah, Lee Hee Joon
Warning : Child harassment, domestic violence
Plot :

Baek Sang Ah or also known as Miss Baek is an ex-convict. Through her childhood brought up, Miss Baek shut people out of her life. She then met Ji-Eun, a nine years old domestic violence victim by her game-addict father and his girlfriend. Miss Baek sees herself in the girl and decided to protect her even if it meant risking her own life.

SPOILER ALERT

The first time I came across this movie, I started thinking of a k-drama called 'Mother' (this review is in Malay) and it was aired on the same year too. Despite that, I still gave this movie a go and it was pretty intense and very intriguing. It is not exactly like the drama because the main character only had a similar childhood but not their current life.

I love Miss Baek character as she actually did care for Ji Eun but she keep questioning herself. Why did she cared for Ji Eun so much. She had a tough upbringing making her close off but with Ji Eun, she let herself go. She started to care more for the girl to the point she's thinking of being her mother even though she feels like doesn't deserve to be a mother.

The most thrilling moment was when Ji Eun tried to escape from her home. She was shoved to the bathroom after get beaten up by her father. Miss Baek came to her house to give her farewell but they unfortunately didn't meet. Ji Eun resolved to escape from her house by climbing out through the bathroom window even though her house was on the second level of the building. That was a crazy scene there. I fear for her that it made me teared up.

Every other party, the father and his girlfriend, the policemen, the child protection department and the social worker are all useless and shitty. It made me so angry how lenient they took her case. Ji Eun once came to the police station after being beaten up only to have them sending her back to the hell. The child protection department refused to have her in the center because of 'full quota' and have the social worker to check on her. And that person in charged called before coming ? I mean that might be normal for everyone else but this should be included in the special case. By giving a head up, the abuser could stop the abuse for the time being. See how useless everyone was ? Oh, don't get me started with Ji Eun's parent figure. They are the source of the problem.

One thing that I really didn't get was Ji Eun's father's girlfriend. Why the hell she stayed with that useless dump-like man ? He obviously spent his time, energy and money on video games. She definitely could do better than that that that ughhh, there's no curse word that suit that type of people. Why did he even took her in when his ex died ? Piece of shit. These two really had me curse on them every time they're on.

I'm really glad that Ji Eun in the end had her good share of childhood. However the punishment received by her so called parent are a little infuriating. That girlfriend should get more year to serve because she is far worse than Ji Eun's father. Miss Baek ? Well, it is left with a question that even I couldn't answer.

Tomorrow I Will Date With Yesterday's You

August 14, 2020 8 Comments
Assalamualaikum, good day dearest ! So last night I was a little bored and decided to watch a movie and this time I decided to go for a Japanese movie. So, here is the review ~ Oh, wow I really update well this week.

not mine; credited to the rightful owner

Title : Tomorrow I Will Date With Yesterday's You / My Tomorrow, Your Yesterday
Runtime : 111 minutes
Genre : Youth, Romance
Country / Language : Japan / Japanese
Released year : 2016
Director : Takahiro Miki
Writer : Takafumi Nanatsuki (novel), Tomoko Yoshida
Cast : Sota Fukushi, Nana Komatsu
Plot :

Takatoshi Minamiyami is an art major at a university. One morning, while riding the train to his university, he saw Emi Fukuju and fall in love at first sight. Gathering up his courage, he talked to her. They begin to date and enjoy the days. Emi however had a secret that she had to tell him.

This movie is based on a novel of the same title by Takafumi Nanatsuki which was published in 2014.

SPOILER ALERT

Oh wow ! Haven't made a Japan movie review for so long ! Okay, this movie is very light at the beginning it is a really cute love story between Emi and Takatoshi at the youth. The age frame I am in, ehem. Anyway I was smiling all through the first 30 minutes because of the awkwardness of Takatoshi and the bold Emi really cute together. The way their relationship grows in a span of one month is precious and makes me craves for my own but nah, I'm not in hurry.

If you pay attention well enough, you will realized that Emi had dropped the subtle hints of her secret. And I really keep guessing her secret. Well, without spoiling too much, I can only said that this movie had a concept of parallel world. Once her secret was out, I keep trying to match the timeline and got confused every time and I eventually stop and just enjoy the movie.

Apart from the concept, I love the cinematography ! It was so beautiful and the places they shoot was just stunning and gorgeous ! It makes me wanted to go and visit Japan someday. This movie is great to binge watch in the middle of night and that's exactly what i did. It was so light and a little bit tear so, it is perfect for midnight binge watch. Last plus point, the heroin are so cute ! I love it when she smiles.

Fun fact, i recognize Sota as one of the casts for Kamen Rider and I'm not even a fan. I just watched the glimpsed aired on TV3 and to think thta I really recognized him was funny.

Cheo Yong 2

August 14, 2020 2 Comments
Assalamualaikum, good day dearest ! Wow, I'm really feeling it this week heh? I don't think I have ever update an entry so much in a week. Kind of like an achievement for me then. Well, as usual, the weekly k-drama review is here.

not mine; credited to the rightful owner

Title : Cheo Yong 2 / The Ghost Seeing Detective, Cheo Yong 2 / Cheo Yong : The Paranormal Detective 2
Episodes : 10
Genre : Horror, Thriller, Action
Director : Kang Cheol Woo
Writer : Hong Seung Hyun
Network : OCN
Related : Cheo Yong
Cast : Oh Ji Ho, Jeon Hyo Seong, Ha Yeon Joo
Plot :

A few years after the incident where Cheo Yong was suspected to be a murderer, the whole team was dismissed from WAS team and worked at different area. To solve a big case, Department Chief Kang Ki Young and Detective Jung Ha Yoon gather Cheo Yong, Team Leader Byun Kok Jin and Detective Lee Jong Hyun as a team. They later on was joined with Han Tae Gyeong who was a patrol officer. With the new team, they begin to solve big cases.

SPOILER ALERT

So, last week I did a review on the first season of this drama and it turns out to be one of the bad review I gave when I reread them again. Well, I was quite annoyed because the theme is quite good and something I am interested in. Anyway, I am really glad that the season two was given a new breath with a new director, thank god. Unlike the first one, there was no disturbing camerawork that I felt so relief. Save myself from a headache.

This season had a more firm back story and plot as every cases they solved were carefully explained and yeah, unlike the first season. However, they didn't mentioned what happened to Sun Woo after they were dismissed. And yeah kind of lacking there because I'm curious. Even in the start of the drama had shown that Department Head Kang and Detective Jung had a hidden intention of building a team outside of the police station. And that really catch my attention. They really seems like plotting something bad.

I personally feels like this season had a better cast member and their dynamic really matches. Detective Jung had a firm and more formal type of person while Na Young is somewhat careless and had a habit of talking carelessly so when Na Young possessed Det. Jung, it became a funny situation especially when she is talking to the other team member. As for Cheo Yong, the team leader and Det. Lee, nothing had changed from the first season.  Their character are still intact. And we have the eye-candy Det. Han. I think the decision to include him to the drama are really great because well, we need some eye-candy, aite ? And his character are great especially the first time he and Cheo Yong met. That was one epic scene. Department Head Kang was something a leader should. I just realized that last season there was no direct mention of someone from upper rank.

As for the overall, I can safely said that this season are way better than the first one. If you ever wanted to watch this drama, I should say that just watch this season alone because it wasn't hard to catch up. Especially there wasn't much interrelation going on between the two season except for the characters and basic storyline.

Perempuan Lindungan Kaabah by Hana Ilhami

August 10, 2020 2 Comments
Assalamualaikum, good day dearest ! This month have been easy for me so far, couldn't say much for the future tho.

sorry for the low quality picture

Tajuk : Perempuan Lindungan Kaabah
Penulis : Hana Ilhami
Mukasurat : 846 pages
Penerbit : Karyaseni
Cetakan : Mei 2015
ISBN : 9789670246345
Blurb :

PEREMPUAN LINDUNGAN KAABAH.

- Fareez

Demi membalas budi, Hanan berkorban atas maksud dakwah.

Before this, aku pinjam dekat member masa duduk asrama time sekolah dulu. And now, got my own copy (preloved gift from a lovely girl jee but that's okay). Aku tak pernah tengok movie dia sebab memang tak berminat nak tengok movie bila aku dah baca novel dia. Either one, okay.

Memandangkan novel ni is the first novel of HI, bahasa yang dia guna agak kaku and sounds a little bit formal. Aku rasa janggal sikitlah nak baca sebab memang tatabahasa semua dijaga rapi. Rasa macam baca karangan BM waktu sekolah hahaha.

Jalan cerita dia agak klise, kahwin paksa tapi sesuailah dengan trend masa novel ni dikeluarkan, memang banyak pun cerita kahwin paksa zaman tu. Kelainan yang ada is novel ni focus more on isu akidah. Konflik Hanan samada nak terima cinta Alex, lelaki Cina yang sedang mendalami Islam yang memang dia suka ataupun terima lamaran Datin Zaleha untuk Fareez, si lelaki Islam yang sering mengabaikan kewajibannya sebagai seorang Muslim.

Lagi klise bila wujudnya watak Sally, girelfriend Fareez. Nasib baiklah mak Fareez ni yang nakkan Hanan as her daughter-in-law kalau tak memang klise habis dah. Tapi sokay, watak Sally ni penyeri jugak, dengan adanya dia barulah nampak cabaran and halangan yang Hanan kena hadap lepas kahwin dengan Fareez. Watak Hanan memang sangatlah mencermin perempuan solehah tapi kekadang aku rasa geram jugak tengok dia terlebih baik. Haih.

Penceritaan novel ni menggunakan third point of view which is my favorite. Aku lagi gemar nak tahu apa yang jadi dekat semua watak daripada duk baca dalam first point of view. Bagi aku third pov ni ada feels movie sikit walaupun dalam first pov pun boleh jadi movie oh well, abaikanla. Aku baca dalam pace yang agak laju. Sebab aku suka dengan watak Fareez. Walaupun dia awalnya tak nak kahwin dengan Hanan tapi lepas kahwin dia banyak uji kesabaran Hanan. Tu belum masuk kes mengusik lagi. Haihh, comel je rasa. Tapi bila bayangkan Sharnaaz yang dok ulang skrip terus janggal ahaha, dia kan muka ganas.

Cheo Yong

August 07, 2020 8 Comments
Assalamualaikum, good day dearest ! I was actually planning for Eid Adha post last weekend but get so caught up with all the cooking and the socializing with my family made me so lazy to type and all. So, yeah, no post. Anyway, for my weekly k-drama review, here I have an old drama that I watched for the first time.
not mine; credited to the rightful owner

Title : Cheo Yong / Ghost Seeing, Detective Cheo Yong / Cheo Yong: The Paranormal Detective
Episodes : 10
Genre : Horror, Thriller, Action
Director : Lim Chang Ik
Writer :Hong Seung Hyun
Network : OCN
Related : Cheo Yong 2
Cast : Oh Ji Ho, Jeon Hyo Seong, Oh Ji Eun
Plot :

Detective Yoon Cheo Yong is born with the ability to see and hear ghost. Ever since he lost his partner seven years ago while trying to catch a ghost who killed people, he quits from the Wide Area Search team and work at the patrol division. He then met a high school girl ghost , Na Young who was trapped in the police station  for unknown reason and started to work at the WAS team again with Detective Ha Sun Woo as his partner. Cheo Young and Sun Woo solved the cases with the help of Na Young.

SPOILER ALERT

I don't remember how I stumble onto this drama but yeah, here we are. For a drama that was released in 2014, I personally think that the cinematography was bad. Like, it was so disturbing to the point that I couldn't enjoy the drama. At first, it was just subtle movement that I could just easily ignore. However, as the episodes went by, the camerawork get worse. The action scene was filmed with shaky footage and it made nauseous. The constant zooming in and out while the characters speak were just as bad. I don't see the point of doing that.

The plot of the drama was easy to understand but with little bits of missing pieces of the past between Cheo Yong, Sun Woo and Na Young. I love the interaction between Cheo Yong and Na Young. They really matched well with their characters. As for Sun Woo, she is a bit out of it. Her character was too weak to be a detective, a detective who wants justice for her dead friend at that. Out of all characters, Sun Woo is a little baseless with her past. Sure, she is a good friend of Na Young that she wanted justice to her death but her 'obsession'  towards Cheo Yong baffled me. She only met Cheo Yong on one occasion and that was because Cheo Yong was chasing the evil spirit. If she had a little stronger back story with Cheo Yong it might be more reasonable for her character.

Despite the genre was classified as horror, I don't really think it is horror as the ghosts only appeared once or twice. Even that wasn't able to scare me, a scaredy cat. Some cases doesn't match well with the theme even. Some just doesn't make sense how they closed the case. It doesn't sit well with me. Oh, another minus point was the set they used. I am not sure either they were on low budget or what but the police station could do much better. I mean, the whole team shared space with some other police officers who doesn't contribute in the drama. I personally think that it was a waste of space. They at least could be the back up for the WAS team but ugh.

The last case they work was the case that linked the main three character together. Just like another detective drama, Cheo Yong was accused as the suspect and went on the run while solving the case. What I couldn't understand was how he cleared his name because the real suspect and killer was an evil spirit who was wronged by Cheo Yong ? Right after he able to punish the spirit, they just went on with their normal day and there was no further explanation on how he was cleared of all charges. Ohh, my head !

And to think this drama was able to get a season two was really weird. Even so, I am on my way to finish the second season. Wait for it ~
